All posts regarding the care and breeding of these catfishes from South America. Will Cory species interbreed or hybridize? Can they interbreed? Will they interbreed? Will the offspring be sterile? Is this a problem? Post by Coryman » Fri Apr 09, am Four questions!

Four answers! Yes some species will cross breed, so a careful choice needs to be made when selecting species to put together. Avoid C. Some of the offspring may very well be fertile. My personal opinion is that any hybrid fry should be destroyed to avoid any chance of them getting into the hobby thus avoiding any chances of them contaminating good stock.

There are to many people trying to produce man made strains and sports as it is. Be very gentle with this step. Next, transfer the eggs to the fry tank without exposing them to air. If you want something more official than a breeder net, egg tumblers are a great affordable option. They were designed specifically for the purpose of incubating fish eggs and do a great job at deterring fungus.

I highly suggest the Cobalt Aquatics Egg Rocker. These eggs are infertile and growing fungus, which can spread to good eggs given enough time. Cory eggs usually hatch in days. For the first few days, feeding your fry is unnecessary since they absorb nutrients from the egg sack attached to their body.

Once the egg sacks are absorbed and the fry are free swimming, start them on New Life Spectrum Fry Food. Your fry should start growing fast once they begin eating.

Once they are large enough, switch the fry over to dried brine shrimp or crushed up flakes. Corydoras are scavengers and do best on a mix of plant and meat based foods. Cory Catfish are a schooling species and should be kept in groups on 5 to 6. All good info! Only differance Ive found is eggs are very prone to fungus using method of transferring eggs to fry tank. I now always use methal blue and tumbler or air stones in breeder. Also, parents left with fry kept eggs clean no methal blue needed and laid around plants where hatched fry stayed until large enough to keep tank mates from consuming.

Great acrobats when happy! Hi Sheri! That is great to hear that you have had success raising and selling Albino Corydoras. I agree, Methylene Blue can be a huge help to keep eggs from developing fungus! I used to use that a lot back when I was breeding Angelfish. It does not mean they are infertile. I have added meth blue in the middle of a incubation period because eggs were starting to fungus and everyone of those eggs hatched. Hi We currently have a cory laying eggs in our aquarium.

Around 30 so far, that I have seen. Around 15 eggs. No fish can get to them. Should I try to collect the eggs, and put them in a floating fry tank? Hi, i was wondering, my Cory eggs have hatched and the fry is about 3 weeks old now but i noticed there are all just laying on the bottom of the tank. If you com near them with your hand, they will get away so they are still alive but just laying still on the bottom. What am I doing wrong?

I am afraid not much of them will survive. I want some of my eggs to hatch. I was wondering why she started laying eggs right after I did a tank cleaning, now I know.

Thank you. Hi, thank you for your info page. We had a pair of Cory, we lost our girl last night, we think she was egg bound. Our family were captivated by their dedication to each other, they were always within touching distance, slept together, Spot our male even petted Steve-e our female with his side fin.

To on lookers you would say they were in love. They are remarkably fish. I would recommend them to any kind fish keeper.

A biggish fish really, especially when you take the shoaling element into account. Inchworm Li'l Ole Fish Lady. Yes, if it is Brochis splendens , often called 'emerald cory', as sometimes is Corydoras aeneus ,. Fishy friend2 said:. Hey Everyone!

I found out it is an Emerald cory. It is the one listed in the picture above. I got him a friend. I also got 2 dalmation Cories. Did you get an albino or another emerald Cory, we have already told you, multiple times per and over, that you can't support a full school of emerald cories or else your tank will be overstocked. At the end of the day who can provide room for a "Full school" of a few hundreds of corys anyway. Some species of Cory will be fine together but what size is your tank?

I mean, the Emeralds are one of the biggest types you can get and you should really get 6 or more so, what size tank do you have again? You must log in or register to reply here.

Truly I am ever so impressed with them and have learned much When I worked I had to be a professional and always crossing my "T's" and so on. I agree with snowman about the sand it's a real pain to keep clean and if you disturb it to much it can clog your filter. I use gravel sand so it's nice for the corries but easier to keep clean looks good too.

I can remember when I used the rounded gravel with my Cory, and not that long ago really! I had to argue go figure my point about it. Now, everyone is doing it, and not because of me! Because people realized a Cory can bury a dead tetra just as easily in a pile of gravel as they can in sand! I was just on a post here and the OP told me that story about the Tetra. Saving him for the holidays perhaps??? Black Cory's are cheaper on AquaBid, but still one of the more expensive kinds. I was probably crazy to buy three of these.
