Send all other face-up monsters they control to the Graveyard. Lore: Each player can only control 1 Type of monster. So I've seen both of these cards used here and there.
They're relatively the same in terms of effect, but is either of them just better than the other? Rivalry is my favorite tech in my Yosenju deck. Get it first turn and watch the guys who SS'd 2 BA monsters cry. In a vacuum, Rivalry is superior because there are 24 different types, while there are but 6 attributes.
If your face-down monster of a different Type is attacked, then the monster is destroyed [ sic ] after damage calculation. If the destroyed [ sic ] monster of a different Type was a Flip Effect Monster , its Flip Effect is still activated, and then the destroyed [ sic ] monster is sent to the Graveyard.
If you have 2 monsters on the field face-up of the same Type, you cannot Tribute 1 of them for another monster that is a different Type even " Jinzo " as you would then have 2 different Types. If " Cyber Jar " is activated while " Rivalry of Warlords " is active, you can Special Summon different Types of monsters face-down without penalty, or Special Summon 1 Type face-up and all the others face-down.
But if you Special Summon different Types of monsters face-up, you have to destroy [ sic ] monsters to make it 1 Type. Tribe ", you now only have 1 Type so you are OK and no monsters are destroyed [ sic ], and you can also Summon, Flip Summon, and Special Summon additional monsters that do not have that printed Type on the card and they will be considered that Type and are not destroyed [ sic ]. When " Rivalry of Warlords " is active you can activate " Dragonic Attack ", but if you have other face-up monsters that are not Dragon-Types then the targeted monster is destroyed [ sic ].

Wumbologist If this ruling is true then it sounds like it would mean Xyz materials were not even considered cards. Hawkeye The rulings below covered the vast majority of the appeals we received at YCS Atlanta, and Dallas, I have also included some other rulings that came up at previous events.
Learn the new terminology with the terms Fast Effect and Open Game State as this is how you should be explaining it to the players. But Flip Effects will still activate. Each separate Type allows for one extra Monster Effect to be activated. This is an incredibly powerful effect that can prevent the opponent from even playing the game. Since a lot of Decks use Monsters as Spell and Trap card removal, this makes "Skill Drain" especially hard to get rid of.
The only downside to "Skill Drain" is that it negates effects, but not activations meaning if the activation sets up plays by using costs the opponent can play through it. It has an added bonus of counting negated Summons, meaning that when played with cards like "Solemn Judgement," the opponent is reduced down to only 1 Summon. While it is fantastic in Control Decks as they don't play many Monsters, Combo Decks can use it as well.
Since it is a Trap Card, it can be Set after the player does their combo, and activated during the opponent's Turn after they have an established board. Since so many Decks have Monsters that share the same Type, this means the Deck more often than not can't play.
The card prevents players from Summoning another Monster of the same Type, as well as attempting to Summon, meaning it can't be Linked or Tribute it away very easily. It doesn't hit every Deck, but it hits almost all the relevant ones that aren't Control-oriented.
